and afterwards edit either of these in Stylus Studio, changes are not reflected in the other instance's content ant it's directory entry (file size or timestamp).
I had the same problem with ultraedit and it related to the fact, that backup files were created by renaming the original file rather than copying it. Therfore the backup file pointed to the hardlink data whereas the original was just a completely new file without any hardlink.

I think I found the problem. I alternatively edited the files with Ultraedit and Stylus Studio. Ultraedit broke the hardlinks. Stylus Studio works ok - apologies!
