Jammy PacSubject: Custom Source Control Provider
Author: Jammy Pac

Hi,

I am on a team that is using Visual Studio Team Foundation Server. I would like to integrate Stylus with Team Foundation Server's source control.

Team Foundation Server has a command-line source control tool.
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc31bk2e.aspx

1) How can I make a custom Source Control Provider plugin that uses this tool?

Thanks,
Jammy

Hi, Jammy. Team Foundation Server should support the Microsoft Source Code Control APIs (MS SCC API), which is what Visual Studio supports, and it's also what SourceSafe exposes.

We haven't tested this with Stylus Studio, but if it's true then you should be able to use the source control server without additional work.

You can find general information about working with source control in the online HTML documentation, here:

http://www.stylusstudio.com/docs/v2006/d_start70.html#wp825812

Hope this helps.

Hi David,

By your response, should I assume that there is not a way to make a custom provider?

I almost got it to work after downloading the Visual Studio Team Foundation Server MSSCCI Provider.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=32202966-EF04-442F-8C5C-88BDF15F551C&displaylang=en

When I click on "Add To Source Control" or "New Project Wizard" I get a "Server Busy" error dialog when the name and password prompt is shown. Please see attached image.

MSDN suggests the error message is caused by a COM timeout.

Thanks,
Jammy

You can create a custom provider assuming you implement and register a MSSCCI provider.

About the problem you are having (Server Busy), are you able to access the same MSSCCI from other "consumers"?

I'll leave that to Microsoft since they have a headstart already. :)

Yes I was able to connect with Visual Studio 2005 Team Edition, Visual Studio 2003, and Visual Studio 6.

As I mentioned, connection to Team Server MSSCCI hasn't been tested (yet); we'll verify the behavior as soon as possible and we'll let you know what we find out.

Thanks for letting us know,
Minollo
