When previewing an XML document in Internet Explorer, Stylus Studio currently opens a local copy of the file in the temporary directory; the reason is that in theory the file might be available on a file system exposed by Stylus Studio, but not supported by Internet Explorer. We already have a PCR to modify this behavior, and we will, soon.

In the meanwhile, you should have problems only if the XML file references DTDs, XML Schemas or XSLTs with relative paths; if you make those paths absolute, things will work as expected.
