Is there any way to connect to other databases
than the ones in the default list? I would like
to connect to MySQL, e.g., or hsqldb.

Hi, David. Yes, you can use DataDirect SequeLink to connect to any database with an ODBC driver.

The procedure for configuring DataDirect Sequelink Server is described here:

http://www.stylusstudio.com/docs/v2006/d_rdb20.html#wp462444

You can view a video of the process of creating relational data sources here:

I don't see anything about creating jdbc connections or MySQL connections in this. I've looked through the SequelLink documentation and can't find anything either. The documentation seems to insist that one use ODBC, but I don't see anything about making and ODBC resource for MySQL or other jdbc connected databases. Perhaps I'm missing something.

David,
the procedure for configuring SequeLink to use a MySQL ODBC connection is not different from what described in the MS Access example. The SequeLink version available to Stylus Studio users does require ODBC drivers; it won't work with JDBC.

You may also want to take a look at http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/default.asp?action=9&read=4542&fid=23&FirstTopic=20&LastTopic=39 for some discussion on this topic.

Hope this helps,
Minollo

David,

SequeLink let you connect to any ODBC system data sources defined in your system including the one based on the MySQL ODBC driver.

You can download the MySQL ODBC driver here
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html

Follow the instructions David posted to configure SequeLink

Hope this helps

But I don't want to use the MySQL ODBC driver. I want to connect to
MySQL and other databases such as HSQL with JDBC. Why does there have to be such a platform restriction to such a useful tool? I see something about using JDBC with DataLink. Why can't I do that? The instructions are a little obscure but shouldn't this be possible?

In order to perform and scale Connect for SQL/XML (the component that Stylus Studio uses) needs to count on stable a fully fledged type 4 JDBC driver.

Plug an external driver could introduce unpredictable behaviours.

Hope this helps

I don't understand the reason for this. What is it doing that requires a native database call? I understand that jdbc-odbc driver is generally poor, but calling a Java database with its own jdbc driver (which in that case is native) shouldn't be a problem.
