Mark HigginsSubject: Sense:X not working in XSLT editor even though it is configured
Author: Mark Higgins

I have not used Stylus Studio to create a new Style Sheet for a while, but I noticed that Sense:X is no longer working. I have Sense:X enabled in the Editor General Settings, but I can't get it to work. Any ideas on what could have changed?

Mark,
what Stylus Studio version and build number are you running? (Help>About)

I'm running 6 rel 3 BL377o and 2006 BL501e, and XSLT Sense:X seems to work as expected: I create a new XSLT, and inside the root template I type "<"; I get the list of all known elements to Sense:X; I keep typing "xsl", and I see all the XSLT elements listed. The same doesn't work for you?

I am using version 6 release 2. I used to have the feature working as you descibed it, but it no longer works. I did replace my machine this year and I installed the product from scratch on it. I did not test this feature out at that time. I have the latest build of release 2 on the machine.

Thanks.

I've tried installing 6 release 2 BL287n, and things still seem to work fine for me.

Do you get the same problem on a newly created XSLT document? As well as on an existing one?

Just to make sure you are resetting all settings, you can try shutting down Stylus Studio, deleting the whole "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Stylus Studio\XML Professional Edition" registry key and restarting the application. Does anything change?

I get the error on both new documents and existing ones. I am going to install this on another machine and see if I have the same problem there.

I will try the registry key item if nothing else works.

I found out what is causing the problem and it is very strange.

I am using a Dell Latitude D810 for my development machine. It has a video card that allows you to expand the desktop to an external monitor. I have the external monitor on the left of the laptop. The driver won't allow the external monitor to be the primary device. I have the external monitor, device 2, on the left of the primary device, the laptop screen, in the physical arrangement setup.

Here is the strange part, if I have the Stylus Studio application window on the laptop screen, Sense:X works. If I move Stylus Studio to the external monitor, Sense:X does not work. And if that were not strange enough, I changed the order of the physical arrangement in the Display Poperties. If the primary device is on the left of the external monitor, Sense:X works. I guess is has something to do with the driver, but at least I have a work around.

Mark,
not too long ago we did fix some problems in Sense:X when working on multiple monitors. If you have a chance I would encourage you to download and try out the latest Stylus Studio version (http://www.stylusstudio.com/download) and see if that works better for you.

The Stylus Studio 2006 installation won't affect your current setup, as long as you don't change the default installation directory to overwrite your current files.

Thanks,
Minollo
