Simon TemplarSubject: Stylus Studio validation problem if not connected to internet

Hi,
I am using command-line validation of XML files. If SS is not connected to internet although it DOES produce a valid output file but an error log as well. In my case I am generating a log file in case of an error that triggers another action if generated. How can I prevent Stylus Studio from generating such an error?

This is quite important as in Production it'll be on a Server and that would not be connected to internet. I am attaching my batch script in case it needs to be looked at.

Any help is appreciated.

Regards.

Hi Simon,

What the error message says?

What Stylus Studio version and Edition?

Is it an evaluation package?

Thanks for replying Ivan. Unfortunately I didi not save the log file as I was testing other stuff as well. But the error message was on the lines of "Could not validate file". But that was when the proxy servers were completely down and there was no internet access whatsoever. I'll definitely save the log file next time for you to look at. For the time being I am not clear as to why it is happening and I'd appreciate if you can give me some pointers about this behaviour. That'd help me request internet access for the server in case things don't work out.

Have a look at the batch script that I've attached and use it on a stand-alone pc without any internet configuration at all ans then see the results.

I don't understand.
1. The validator is using a schema that lives on the internet.
2. The internet connection is down.
3. The validation fails.
My question is, how could it ever succeed?
It would be an error always, since the schema can't be fetched to
validate against. No?

Tony, As I am very new to XML so I have a very limited knowledge of how things work at the moment so I might be understanding it all wrong. From your point above does that mean that even though the schema is a file residing in a directory it is treated as a URL? I'd appreciate if you can briefly explain how does the validation process work in relation to Schema and internet.

What happens if the development is being done on a stand-alone PC? Does that mean for any XML development one would need internet access?

Although the validation does produce a valid file there's an error message as I mentioned in my original post.

Regards.

When you specified
-schema "http://www.fsa.gov.uk/XMLSchema/FSAHSFFeedPP-v1-2.xsd"
in your batch file, you tested against a schema that is on a server
named www.fsa.gov.uk, not a local copy.

If you have a local copy of this schema, then you could have done
-schema "file:///c:/localpath/FSAHSFFeedPP-v1-2.xsd"

You need to put a copy locally in order to validate against it when you
are not internet-enabled.

Excellent stuff Tony! Many thanks for a clear and succinct reply. The scenario is much clearer now.
