Kasimier BuchcikSubject: SS home edition downloads the wrong version of XSV
Author: Kasimier Buchcik

I just downloaded SS home edition and tried out the XSD validation engines:

1. The display shows XSV 2.10-1 but the automatically downloaded
version is 2.9-1:

Running custom validation engine XSV 2.10-1...

XSV 2.9-1 of 2005/04/14 11:49:27
Success - no validation error or warning conditions found

Please provide version 2.10-1. I hit an XSV bug with 2.9-1 and the
attached W3C XML Schema document + instance.

2. Xerces J-2.5.1 is really outdated. Please provide an install for
Xerces J-2.6.2.

Unknownany-1.xsd
any-1.xsd - the schema document

Unknownany-1.xml
any-1.xml - the instance

Hi Kasimier,

Thans for reporting this; it could be that the on-demand package has not been updated (Stylus Professional edition correctly ships with XSV 2.10). In the meanwhile you can download XSV 2.10 from http://www.ltg.ed.ac.uk/~ht/xsv-status.html and unpack it in the <StylusDir>\bin\Custom Validation Engines\XSV overwriting its current content.

For a series of dependencies (e.g. FOP) we have to ship Xerces-J 2.5.1; but if you have the jars of Xerces-J on your computer you can create a custom validator for it by going to Tools | Options, selecting the Custom Validation Engines and adding a new entry labeled, for instance, "Xerces-J 2.6.2". Then, fill the edit box with these values (assuming you have them in a c:\xerces-j_2_6_2 folder):

Command: java.exe
Arguments: com.progress.stylus.XercesValidator ${FilePath}
Initial directory: (leave it empty)
Path: ${Path}
Classpath: C:\xerces-j_2_6_2\xml-apis.jar;C:\xerces-j_2_6_2\xercesImpl.jar;${StylusDir}\Custom Validation Engines\Xerces_J\XercesValidator.jar

Hope this helps,
Alberto

Great, Xerces and XSV are up-to-date on my side now.
Thanks!

I noticed that Saxon8.jar is in the bin directory. Is it
possible to use its XML Schema processor as well somehow?

You should be able to put saxon8sa.jar and license.lic in the same
directory as saxon8.jar and Stylus Studio should pick it up instead.
