Peta BowyerSubject: Stylus Studio has stopped debugging
Author: Peta Bowyer

hello

Recently Stylus Studio has stopped debugging for me, when I press F5. It executes straight through without stopping at any breakpoints. Also, the breakpoint list doesn't give the correct line numbers for the breakpoints.

I am using an external xalan-J processor. Should debugging work with the external processor or just with the built-in processor? (I think it used to work with the external one)

If it will debug with an external xalan, how do I get it to work? Which path and classpath settings in Options affects this?

To try to resolve this, I installed the latest version 5.3 release. This upgraded my 5.3.179i to 5.3.179L. This release still doesn't debug with the external xalan, but instead of executing straight through, it takes 5 minutes to process a small file, which takes 5 seconds using the Preview green triangle. When it finally finishes, struzzo.exe still absorbs 98% of the CPU. Have you any suggestions?

Thank you
Peta

Peta,
can you try installing the latest Stylus Studio 6 Release 3 (you can download a free trial from http://www.stylusstudio.com/update; it will not conflict with your existing installation).

If the problem persists, can you send us the XSLT+XML documents you are using so that we can better understand what's going on?

Thanks,
Minollo

Thanks Minollo, I'll try Stylus Studio 6 Release 3 first, and let you know.

Hi Tony, yes, I selected "Use Xalan-J processor" in the Scenario Properties. Also, in Tools>Options, under XSLT Editor>External XSLT, I added an additional path and classpath to the jar files for the xalan and xerces that I want to use. These are the jars that we use for real, during our batch transforming. Here is the classpath:

f:\xml\xsl_rts\xerces.jar;f:\xml\xsl_rts\xalan.jar;f:\xml\xsl_rts\compat.jar;f:\xml\xsl_rts\js.jar;${classpath}

I've also added the jars to the classpaths for Application Settings>Java Virtual Machine and Java>External JVM, but I assume those are irrelevant and I could remove them. Please can you confirm?

Thanks
Peta

Also, what do you mean by "external" Xalan?
Stylus comes with a copy of Xalan; do you mean that you've selected
that on the scenarios tab?
Or, did you add your copy of Xalan as a "custom" processor?

If you've done the latter, than we can't debug with it.
