Well starting today when I try and open Stylus Studio I get a Windows Installer popup that opens and says 'Perparing to Install'. This popup never goes away and I cannot get into Stylus Studio. I eventually have to kill the Windows Installer with the Task Manager. I have done the following to try and correct this problem...
1) Uninstalled and re-installed Stylus Studio (6.1, build 287e)
2) I have downloaded and ran msicuu2
3) Have run regclean.exe
Nothing seems to work any help would be great, since this is my only XML editor.

This is definitely an issue for msicuu2, the Windows installer clean-up utility; at least one application installation, typically MS Office, Outlook or Outlook Express is causing the problem.
Please note that the problem is not in the Stylus Studio installation, so cleaning or removing the Stylus Studio installation won't change the behavior you are seeing.

I do not understand what you mean by cleaning? I do not have an option to clean the installation only remove. Should I uninstall the office software from add/remove programs? Or does remove do something different from uninstalling the software? Sorry for not understanding but I have to be sure of what remove is actually going to do first. Thank You.

The Windows Installer Clean-Up utility doesn't completely uninstall an application; it just "cleans-up" some of the registry settings set by Windows Installer when installing the application you are "cleaning". As a result of that, in many cases you need to re-install the "cleaned-up" application.
So, what you may want to do is to start checking if MS Office 2000 is listed by the Windows Installer Clean-up utility; and if it is start cleaning it. If the problem persists, the culprit usually is (in the few other cases we have seen) the Outlook or Outlook Express installation.

I'm also having problems running Stylus Studio. The Windows Installer window would come up and just hang. I've tried cleaning the Office 2003 install, and I don't have Outlook express installed. I still am having the same problem.

Do you have any other MS Office version installed? Any typical MS product that would involve use of the Internet Explorer component?(that's what Stylus Studio tries to use, and whose broken installation creates the problem in question)

Is there some other workaround for this problem?

Michael, thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, I don't have Pervasive installed. I however, do have SQL Server 2000 and 2005 beta installed. Don't know if they are the cause, but I can't really uninstall them just to run Stylus Studio.

Note that the MS installer cleanup utility doesn't really uninstall the software; it just cleans up installer-related registry entries. But it is true that in some cases you may have to reinstall the "cleaned up" software...
