David TellanderSubject: Incorrect data<->column mapping in converter
Author: David Tellander

Hi!

I'm trying to create a Convert to XML converter. The file I want to convert is a CSV generated from MS Excel. A lot of cells in the file contain no data. The structure looks something like this:

colHead1;colHead2;colHead3;colHead4;colHead5;colHead6
data1;;;data4;;
data1;data2;;data4;;
data1;;;;data5;

The problem is that the converted XML looks like this:

<root>
<row>
<colHead1>data1</colHead1>
<colHead2>data4</colHead2>
</row>
<row>
<colHead1>data1</colHead1>
<colHead2>data2</colHead2>
<colHead3>data4</colHead3>
</row>
<row>
<colHead1>data1</colHead1>
<colHead2>data5</colHead2>
</row>
</root>

I.e the data<->column mapping is incorrect, it is always the first columns that are used even if the data are in other columns. This happens only when I open a file, in the preview pane of the convert to XML editor it looks like it should.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks,
David

Alas, you are correct, there is a bug.

Internally, the engine is looking at the wrong variable. Instead of
looking at the setting for 'collapse consecutive separators' it is
looking at 'double delimiters to escape'.

In the short-term, if you don't care about that second setting, changing
it to 'false' will fix your problem.

In the longer term, a patch release should be available shortly.
