I was working with SS (can't remember what version) and generated a runtime error – I sent the error report off and received an email from Ivan Pedruzzi [ipedruzz@datadirect.com] informing me that the bug had been resolved and that I needed to download the latest patch.

I downloaded the patch - but the installation failed.
Installshield told me to uninstall previous version.
I tried to do this but the uninstall failed too!
I tried to install my original version stylus6_r1_212e but it also tells me to uninstall previous versions.

So now stuck in a postion that I cannot install or uninstall SS.

See attached Word file for screen shots.

(I've tried removing SS entries from the registry but this doesn't seem to have helped)

Any help would be appreciated.

I'm running Windows 2000 SP3

For some reason licensing information got deleted/corrupted from your registry; it's strange, because when updating to more recent versions licensing information is left untouched.

Anyway, to get you back in business:
** Using regedit.exe delete the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SOFTWARE\
Stylus Studio\
XML Professional Edition\
Registration
** Delete this folder from your system (assuming "Program Files" is on c:)
c:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{83166e6a-fcc7-46be-8aad-3f7e1ed95008}
** Re-install your original (I guess fully licensed) installation package, and then install the update

Let us know if you still have problems.

Perform the following steps
- verify using Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DEL ->Task Manager) that ikernel.exe is not running
- if the “registry corrupted” error still persists
delete the following registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Stylus Studio\XML Professional Edition

Delete the following folder
c:\Program Files\InstallShield Installation Information\{83166e6a-fcc7-46be-8aad-3f7e1ed95008}
