SSDN AdminSubject: XQuery Town Hall Meeting - November 16 at 7:30pm (EST)
Author: SSDN Admin

Fellow XML Developers -

Join us for an XQuery Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, November 16 at 7:30 pm at the upcoming XML 2004 Conference and Expo in Washington DC, hosted by XQuery expert, Jonathan Robie of DataDirect Technologies and other well-known XQuery experts including Ron Bourret, Michael Rys, Steve Buxton, Daniela Florescu and Michael Kay. We'll be addressing important questions like:

* Is XQuery a Java or an Ada? How complex is it? Is it a language people will like to use?
* Does XQuery solve the right use cases? Does it solve them well?
* Have XML Schema, namespaces, XPath, and white space handling made it too difficult to develop an XML query language? Should XQuery have played rebel and done some of this its own way?
* Is the addition of native XML storage to mainstream relational databases a vindication or a death knell for native XML databases?
* What's missing from XQuery? Is it really useful without updates? Without full-text search? Without more sophisticated grouping? Should more features be added gradually, or are they needed right now?
* Is SQL/XML a success, or will people just wait for implementations of XQuery over relational data?
* SQL wants to add functions that use XQuery. Is adding all of XQuery to all of SQL a wonderful synergy or a recipe for disaster? Why not just extend SQL?
* Microsoft's C? attempts to unify the object, relational, and XML worlds. Is this a more promising approach than the XQuery approach?
* What are the relative advantages and disadvantages? Is this just interesting research, or is it likely to become commercially important?

All these plus your own questions will be addressed at this important XQuery Town Hall Meeting, so common' down - we look forward to meeting you all.

Sincerely,
The Stylus Studio Team
