How will SS handle this situation
for-each select="document($to)">
keys('to-elements', a-variable)
for-each

Will it reopen the file each time it is called or a cache is kept
such that
it knows a file has previously been opened and reuse?

Francisco,

Our XSLT processor like many other implementations caches the DOM using the document URL as key,
so it should open the document only once.
