graham littleSubject: Dynamic XSLT 1.0 - Handling dynamic form elements...
Author: graham little

Hi,

i have a form in which i create a group of form details boxes dynamically
based on an integer i have:

< name="user_1"/>
< name="user_2"/>
< name="user_3"/>

I would like to know how i can test a dynamic element because when i try
to do it i get an error:

<xsl:if test="request/parameters/user_{$iCounter}">

i hope this makes sense, thanks for your time.

Graham

Unfortunately it doesn't :)

1) <name="user_1"> is not XML

You should create something like

<user name="user_1">

2) XPath expression doesn't allow dynamic path based on variables

you should use something like that

<xsl:for-each select="request/parameters/user[translate((substring-after(@name, 'user_')), '1234567890', '')='']">
<xsl:copy-of select="."/>
</xsl:for-each>

Yes i realise that was not proper xml i was just using it as a rough
example, the actual xml i am using is well formed.

I have managed to get it reading and populating my form elements that
have been created dynamically so it is o.k now.

thanks for help though.
