I am evaluating the Stylus product and have a requirement to connect to a Progress 9.1D database. I am trying to use a Database type of "Datadirect SequeLink" and the following url:

//10.62.119.73:2500;databaseName=mydb

When I attempt to connect I get the following exception:

java.sql.SQLException: [StylusStudio][SequeLink JDBC Driver]Internal network error, session aborted due to session protocol data unit format error, connection closed.; at ZC.jdbc.jxtr.JXTRDriverConfig.translateSQLException(Unknown Source); at ZC.jdbc.jxtr.JXTRDriverConfig.createSQLException(Unknown Source); at ZC.jdbc.jxtr.JXTRDriver.connect(Unknown Source); at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager.java:512); at java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(DriverManager.java:171); at com.stylusstudio.DataDirectStub.connect(DataDirectStub.java:81); at com.stylusstudio.DataDirectStub.generateDatabaseMetaData(DataDirectStub.java:98); at com.stylusstudio.SQLXFile.generateDatabaseMetaData(SQLXFile.java:259);

Now I am able to connect just fine to it from a small Java application if I use the jdbc drivers from Progress, which are developed by DataDirect. So I know I have the appropriate brokers running on the Progress side.

My environment is as follows:

Client: WIN2K SP3
Stylus Studio: 5.1, build 173h
JDK 1.4.2_02

Server: Linux RH EA 2.X
Progress 9.1D SP6

Did you install SequeLink Server as described in the release notes?
"c:\Program Files\SonicSoftware\Stylus Studio\doc\relnotes.htm"



Here are the steps to connect to a Progress database

1) Download and install SL
http://download.sonicsoftware.com/stylusstudio/datadirect/sequelinkserver5.4.exe

2) Create an ODBC system data source using the Progress driver.
Named it
progress

3) Open the SL snap-in (SequeLink 5.4 Manager Snapin)
Login and drill down to DataSourceSOCODBCConnStr property
and set the value to
DSN=progress

5) Open Stylus and create new "DB to XML Data Source"

6) When the scenario pops up select Sequelink as "Database type" then type user and password
(the same from ODBC connection)

7) After clicking OK you should get the database schema.

Thanks for the info. That was the problem, I had not started the SequeLink Service. Configured as you suggested and it worked on the first try.
