I've been using SS for a while now and really like it. Especially when
compared to what we had been using (the built-in VS.NET xml tools).
I tend to work mostly in Text Mode when I'm creating our documents, since
the documents are usually very similar and require a lot of cut and
paste from other documents. I like a previous suggestion I read on the
board about putting brackets in the gutter to show "how far in" you are
into the document's tags.
But that's not enough for me. :) I also want/need the [+]/[-] collapsing
and expanding clickys next to tags that have child tags. It's so much
easier to edit in Text Mode than in Tree Mode, so I want to be able to
do it from there. It should also synchronize with the tree mode so that
I can move back and forth between them seamlessly if I wanted to.
Speaking of editing in tree mode. Instead of click, wait, click (like
when you're editing filenames in windows explorer)... what about having
a simple double-click enable editing?
Also, I think it would be nice to have SS remember which trees were
open and closed as part of the project file (this would probably
neccessitate a largish ammount of metadata in the project file). But it
would help our situation out tremendously. We tend to work on some
large documents for long periods of times, so if we get a high-level
tag and all it's subfields into a "final" state, we would like to close
that tag and have it stay closed from session to session.

This is a feature that we are already considering for a future version.
Thanks for your vote for it ;-)

What do you mean? That if you come from the tree view we should try
to collapse the nodes that were collapsed in the tree view?
An issue with this is that the text view can have just one [+] button
per line, regardless of how many nodes that line contains, while the
tree view has a finer grain.

Unfortunately the double click on a tree node is usually associated with
the expansion/collapse of the node, so triggering a rename operation
would go against other people's expectations... Have you tried the other
way of starting the rename (pressing F2)?

Thank you for the suggestion; we will add it to our databases
of requested enhancements.
