I new to using xpath and xquery in general

I can write a query to find if a attribute exists

/test/aaaa[*]/bbb[*]/field[5]/@id=1/

But how do I retrieve all the information in that "aaaa" branch?

<test>
<aaaa>
<bbb name="run">
<field name="run.time" show="234445"/>
<field name="run.length" show="55"/>
<field name="run.author" show="joe blogs"/>
<field name="run.date" show="060811" ff="55" hh="55"/>
<field name="run.number" show="test4" id="1"/>
</bbb>
<bbb name="test">
<field name="test.time" show="234445"/>
<field name="test.length" show="55"/>
<field name="test.author" show="joe blogs"/>
<field name="test.date" show="050811" ff="55" hh="55"/>
</bbb>
<bbb name="result">
<field name="test.time" show="000145"/>
<field name="test.length" show="55"/>
<field name="test.author" show="joe blogs"/>
<field name="test.date" show="060811" ff="55" hh="55"/>
</bbb>
</aaaa>
<aaaa>
<bbb name="run">
<field name="run.time" show="224445"/>
<field name="run.length" show="45"/>
<field name="run.author" show="fred blogs"/>
<field name="run.date" show="060911" ff="55" hh="55"/>
<field name="run.number" show="test4" id="2"/>
</bbb>
<bbb name="test">
<field name="test.time" show="034445"/>
<field name="test.length" show="77"/>
<field name="test.author" show="ian blogs"/>
<field name="test.date" show="060812" ff="55" hh="55"/>
</bbb>
<bbb name="result">
<field name="test.time" show="000145"/>
<field name="test.length" show="55"/>
<field name="test.author" show="joe blogs"/>
<field name="test.date" show="060811" ff="55" hh="55"/>
</bbb>
</aaaa>
</test>

Not sure I understand the question; would something like this do what you are trying to achieve?

/test/aaaa/bbb/field[@id=1]

Or maybe you have multiple occurences of that?

<allFields>{
for $f in /test/aaaa/bbb/field
where $f/@id = 1
return $f
}</allFields>
