Now ive never used XQuery before and was wondering how i can use that in my photo application? <br>
<br>
Using XQuery is it possible to query my XML data and add some sort of search facility whereby someone can type in a category and brings up all the data representing it?<br>
<br>
One final question do i need an XML database such as eXist to run these queries (i have stylus)?<br>
<br>
Thanks

You can use XQuery in Stylus Studio without need of any (XML) database.
You can think about XQuery as a query and transformation language; you can potentially use XQuery for what you are doing today with XSLT, even if XQuery is often seen more in conjunction with the concept of multiple, potentially heterogenous data sources.

Thanks, what about if i added a search facility on my application is it possible to use Xquery to bring back the results? If so would you be able to show me how you would do this just for a basic search?

If your goal is to query an XML document, then sure, you can do that with XQuery. As I mentioned, you will find plenty of examples and educational material on our web site and on http://www.w3.org/XML/Query/
