julian gonzalezSubject: display a label once and only once

Hi,

I've been trying to research a way to solve this small problem.

<htmlFields>
<field>
<name>john</name>
<category>1</category>
<order>1</order>
</field>
<field>
<name>jim</name>
<category>2</category>
<order>4</order>
</field>
<field>
<name>steve</name>
<category>1</category>
<order>3</order>
</field>
<field>
<name>ted</name>
<category>2</category>
<order>2</order>
</field>
</htmlFields>

In my xslt Im using:

<xsl:sort select="category"/>
<xsl:sort select="order"/>

In other words, I'm sorting first on category, and secondly on their order (Two fields never have the same order number.) So if I parsed it you would have

john
steve
ted
jim

My problem is I need to insert a LABEL between category 1 and 2 fields. So it would look like this:

john
steve
***LABEL***
ted
jim

Can xslt even do something like this? forgive me if I made a mistake somewhere, as I'm doing this all from my head at the moment, and the fact that I'm sorting the data makes it even more difficult.

thanks in advance

Basically you'd have to declare 2 for-each'es or 2 apply-templates, depending on what you're using.

<xsl:for-each select="field[category = 1]">
<xsl:sort select="order"/>
...
</xsl:for-each>
***INSERT LABEL HERE***
<xsl:for-each select="field[category = 2]">
<xsl:sort select="order"/>
...
</xsl:for-each>

If you happen to have dynamically more than just 2 categories, you'll have to use something called Muenchian Grouping (if you want it to be easy anyways):
