Not sure how the conversation you are referring to went; but Stylus Studio doesn't support Eclipse.
As part of DataDirect XQuery, we do offer a "DataDirect XQuery Edition" of the <oXygen/> Eclipse plugin, where the XQuery editor integrates DataDirect XQuery. Maybe that's what originated the confusion.

Wouldn't it be worthwhile to support Eclipse?
It seems with a totally separate IDE (SS), there's just one more possibility for things to get out of sync.
That's why I've been looking more and more at oXygen, since it integrates nicely with Eclipse and has a separate piece for parts that wouldn't work there.
I mean we're talking a large amount of money for either SS or Oxygen so getting the right set of tools is important. Virtually everyone I know uses Eclipse.

If we started building Stylus Studio today, wouldn't we build it in Eclipse or another existing IDE framework? Yes, most likely.
Wouldn't it be worthwhile to have an Eclipse version of Stylus Studio today? If it was possible for free, sure, why not; but it isn't. It doesn't make for a good business case at this point.
Do we get any benefit from NOT being integrated in Eclipse? Yes, we have a closer control of the application and its shared services; good luck at writing an Eclipse XML plugin that lets you edit 1GB XML documents...
