I'm in the process of writing an XML Schema that maps Topic Maps to XLink in a logical manner. Hopefully this will help. But you must not confuse the RDF Description with Topic Maps. RDF simply assigns Metadata to resources. It cannot be used to name nodes within resources, or to define the relationships between types of nodes, which is what Topic Maps are all about (as well as allowing you to assign metadata to resources in the form of facet values).
