I have read all the postings I could find in SSDN and tried all the suggestions, but I still have not succeeded in installing Stylus Studio 2007 XML Enterprise Release 2:

(stylus-studio-enterprise-8r2 (Build BL894m).exe).

The software was already installed, but after updating to Windows XP SP3 I couldn't start Stylus Studio without the Windows Installer dialog appearing. The dialog only has a Cancel button. Clicking the Cancel button does nothing except disable the Cancel button. There is no close box in the title bar. I looked in the Task Manager Process tab and the CPU was 0.000 for both Stylus Studio and Windows Installer. What is interesting is that the Window Installer program name is regsvr32.exe. That program registers DDLs and ActiveX controls in the Registry.

Before I re-installed the Visual Studio C++ libraries, the Windows Installer dialog appeared while Stylus Studio was verifying the installation. Afterwards, the Windows Installer dialog appeared at the beginning of the installation.

Every time I tried to uninstall Stylus Studio, I couldn't because I got that same Windows Installer dialog. I had to use Revo Uninstaller to uninstall Stylus Studio.

Stylus Studio is the only application that I'm having this problem with, but I'm sure it's a Microsoft problem because every thing was fine until updating to SP3.

I have attached a JPG with screen shots. I searched for an installation log, but I couldn't find one.

I would appreciate any advice.

I let the Windows Installer dialog to remain open for a long time. Might have been over an hour.

Eventually a new Windows Installer dialog appeared that said "Install server not responding". What install server? I never got this message
previous to Windows XP SP3.

Has anyone seen this message? Know what it means. JPEG of the dialog is attached.

I've been unable to install Stylus Studio for over 2 weeks now and I DESPARATELY need to use Stylus Studio.

Looks like you entered a very weird state.

The original problem (Windows installer window popping up at startup) is covered in the FAQ that I'm sure you have already seen: http://www.stylusstudio.com/ssdn/default.asp?action=9&read=3762&fid=47

But now you seem to be hitting a different problem with the installation of the Visual C++ redistributable libraries; it looks like you already did that, but what does it happen now if you try installing those again manually? Here's are the additional things that I have done:

1. Updated Microsoft Installer to version 4.5.

2. Uninstalled Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package.

3. Installed Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable Package.

4. Uninstalled Microsoft Office 2003 using Windows Install Cleanup 4.71.1015.0 msicuu2.exe.

5. Disabled ZoneAlarm Security Suite 7.0.473.0.

6. Disabled Uniblue SpyEraser 2.0.1.1530.

But Microsoft's regsvr32.exe is hanging or waiting or whatever. It's purpose is to register dynamic-link libraries and ActiveX controls in the registry.

I don't know what to try now, other than a complete clean install of Windows XP and then endlessly go through Windows Update, re-install all my software and go through all their updates too. This will definitely be a last resort. :)

Hi,

Can someone please tell me which version of Microsoft C++ Redistributable package (2005 or 2008) is required for Stylus Studio "2007 XML Enterprise Suite Release 2 v8"?

All my applications are using the 2008 Redistributable package.

I still cannot install Stylus Studio because the Windows Installer is hanging on Microsoft's regsvr32.exe.
