Have you guys encountered the above exception during XSL transformation?

xmlns:date="http://xml.apache.org/xalan/java/java.util.Date"

xmlns:java="http://xml.apache.org/xalan/java"
xmlns:format="http://xml.apache.org/xalan/java/java.text.SimpleDateFormat" exclude-result-prefixes="date java format java_lang">

I am getting an error on line
<xsl:variable name="formatter" select="java:java.text.SimpleDateFormat.new(' yyyy.MM.dd hh:mm a zz')"/>

Please help.
