I had some Java code report an XML document as having invalid UTF-8.

I took the XML & opened it in IE which said "An invalid character was found in text content".

I then opened it in Stylus Studio which did not complain & it said the XML was well formed.

I opened it in XML Spy which also did not complain & it said the XML was well formed.

I then thought that maybe this was because the XML header was missing & so I put one on that explicity said that the encoding is UTF-8.

Stylus Studio still said the XML was well formed & didn't point out that the UTF-8 was invalid.

I don't expect much of XML Spy but I did expect that Stylus Studio would point out the invalid UTF-8 when that was the stated encoding.

Is this an oversight in Stylus Studio ?

I just sent an example of the invalid UTF-8 XML to 'stylus-field-report@progress.com' with the subject "Invalid UTF-8 XML".

When will the next Stylus Studio release with this new invalid UTF-8 detection be ready ?

For now I have to use IE to detect invalid UTF-8 in XML.

Stylus Studio 2006 Release 3, available next Tuesday, 6/13.

It is late on Tuesday 7/13 & there is according to "Check for latest version" still no new version.

When will the next release with UTF-8 validation be out ?

As this is a new release (2006 release 3), the automatic new version check is not triggered.
