Subject: after install, studio runs but not visible Author: Tim Drury Date: 13 Feb 2006 09:40 AM

My email to stylus-field-report@stylusstudio.com bounced, so here
is the email:
I have 2 enterprise licenses for stylus studio. I've installed build
510h on my work PC (XP pro, fully patched) and it works fine. I
installed 510h on my laptop and when I run it the splash screen
shows, disappears, then nothing else happens. Struzzo.exe appears
in the task list, but there is 0% cpu usage.
I've tried this with both JDK 1.4.2 and 1.5.0 on my path and
JAVA_HOME - same results. Here is some more config info:
Inspiron 8200
XP Home, SP2
All latest patches
tried both JDK 1.4.2_09 and JDK 1.5.0_01
had eval copy of Stylus Studio installed, but uninstalled before installing 510h
running MS Antispyware, F-secure
system is behind a firewall and NAT'd (same results at home and work
which are both firewalled and NAT'd, but in different ways)
MS firewall (tried with this turned off, but made no difference)
No http proxy
Is there any more info I can provide? There are no logs in the stylus directories.

Tim,
thanks for the additional details. Sorry for the bounce back from the email address I suggested you; that one should work too, but in the future feel free to use stylus-field-report@progress.com, and that will definitely work.
Your configuration sounds perfectly fine; I hate asking this, but have you tried uninstalling/re-downloading/re-installing BL501h? That would allows us to rule out the possibility that we are dealing with a corrupted installation.
Also, have you noticed any "Windows Installer" window popping up after running Stylus Studio? If yes, then "http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/default.asp?action=9&fid=47&read=3762" may help.
Finally, is Internet Explorer working regularly on your machine?
If all of the above don't highlight any problem, then our only next option is to send you an instrumented package that tracks down a number of parameters to indentify what's going wrong on your machine.
Thanks for your patience,
Minollo
