Subject:Convert MS resource file (.rc) to XML Author:Rajendra Kamath Date:05 Sep 2005 01:39 AM
Hi,
We are using a Microsoft Resource File (.rc file). We must make it easily parseable and also to make it platform independent. (The .rc file contains information about the various controls/components that go into the UI)
Converting it to XML seems to be a possible option? Does anyone have any other idea?
I am new to XML and the stylus studio. Is there any easy option to convert a .rc file to XML. (When parsed using Stylus studio it prompts for creating a 'custom convertor' but it does not give desired results)

Depending on what you need from the .rc file, you *might* be able
to get it from Convert-to-XML. You'd probably want line-oriented
regions, with " as the delimiter and , as the separator.
You'd also want to use pattern matching to emit different output
based on whether the the row is a MENUITEM or whatever.
You might have a problem for rows that wrap, but it all depends on
what information you care about.
Then you'd want to use the output from C2XML as input to XSLT or
XQuery to build your nesting. See the thread http://www.stylusstudio.com/SSDN/default.asp?action=9&read=4118&fid=23
for details on doing that.
