Of course, if you wrap them in CDATA you can't use the content
except as a blob of text.
You could use the HTMLTidy adapter which we include as part of
the Stylus Studio environment, which would convert the XML to
XHTML so that you could query it, if that is what you need.

I don't think that the XML Tidy tool would do the trick as the HTML files that I use are and will be made using a WYSIWYG HTML editor.
The style sheets that I am preparing are for the CMS which will be used by people who are not exceptionally good with computers. I am pretty sure that XML Tidy could fail in many transformations, because I know what these guys can do (mess) with a WYSIWYG HTML editor.
The key concept was and is to be able to include not well formed HTML documents and display them as they are.
