Subject:Schemas not recognized ? Author:Bruce Wallace Date:05 Feb 2002 08:54 PM
I've just downloaded this program (so maybe this is a newbie problem) BUT when I open foo.xsd the program doesnt recognize it as a Schema.
If I create a new empty schema doc and paste in the contents of foo then Sty.Stud. is happy. !?
Also, when I open foo.xml that references foo.xsd, S.S. doesnt make the connection between the two docs unless I manually use the menu item XML->Associate with Schema command. You've got to be kidding? What's the trick to get S.S. to recognize these things automatically?

Bruce,
as you haven't attached the Schema file which is creating you troubles,
I can only try guessing.
Are you sure that your XML Schema is using the final version of the W3C XML
Schema namespace? Your XML Schema document should start with something
similar to:
{xsd:schema xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"}
(where { == < and } == >)
If the namespace URI you see is different, than you are either using an old
version of XML Schema document (possibly not compatible with the W3C final
version of XML Schema), or you are not using a W3C XML Schema at all.

The only difference was that the original .xsd did not have the first line:
which I thought was not required since the latest version of XERCES and XALAN (from Apache) did not give any complaints or warnings that it was missing when they validated my docs with it.

The only difference was that the original .xsd did not have the first line:
...xml version="1.0"... (excelon ought to get better message board software that can convert text to HTML!)
which I thought was not required since the latest version of XERCES and XALAN (from Apache) did not give any complaints or warnings that it was missing when they validated my docs with it.

Bruce, I don't think that the missing xml header can make a difference. Can
you please post the foo.xsd file (or e-mail it at my address)?

This was a problem related to a bad handling of the UTF-8 BOM in the file
Bruce was using.
The problem has been fixed in 3.1 BL69l, now available on: http://www.stylusstudio.com/update
