Such things depends on the XSLT processor you use, Saxon 9.2 has a serialization option http://www.saxonica.com/documentation/extensions/output-extras/indent-spaces.html http://www.saxonica.com/documentation/extensions/output-extras.html that allows you to set the number of spaces.
