 Hi List, Note numeric character references are not entity references. You can not preserve character references as the XSLt engine has no knowledge of whether character references or entity references or character data were used in the source. However if you specify an encoding such as US-ASCII for output that does not contain the characters in your result tree XSLT will serialise these characters using numeric references 9however they were originally input) <xsl:output encoding="US-ASCII"/> Your sample was using latin-1 so any high characters would be output using numeric references but anything in the 8-bit range would be output as character data. using US-ASCII restricts character data to the 7-bit range. Normally doing this is preferable to using character maps to get entity references in the result.
