Learned it on a surfing trip. Was handed an XSLT book (small blue thing, can't
remember its title back in 99) and told to learn it. It made sense to me and
off I went. Then I realized I had no programming background and needed some
training in that vein to put some discipline in method to my madness.

Also this list helped me a lot and MK's books from 1st ed to the latest have
been invaluable.

One question. How did MK learn it? ;>)

First learn TeX and lisp and Standard ML, then you can answer most XSL-FO
questions by assuming it's the same as TeX, but with pointy brackets,
and you can answer most xslt questions by assuming it's lisp with
pointy brackets. The remaining finer points pick up from the REC (or
rather, earlier working drafts thereof.)
