Is there a way to do this possibly by using the results of the first
category template and processing it in a new template?

That raises the question whether you want to use XSLT 1.0, XSLT 1.0 with extension function exsl:node-set, or XSLT 2.0?

And of whether, if using XSLT 1.0, pipelining two stylesheets is possible, or whether we are really baking bread with our elbows. (It has been done.)

Or to be more specific: no, it isn't possible in XSLT 1.0 to process the results of one template with another, without using features or techniques devised to do so. (These include the extension function and pipelining stylesheets. For reasons lost in the depths of history, XSLT 1.0 was deliberately designed without this capability unassisted.) But it would be possible to get your desired output using other approaches.

Cheers,
Wendell
