xalan extension function

Could any one tell more about the xalan extension function / link /
exmaples ...related to my requirement as follows,

xalan extension function is necessary for my requirement to convert
target tree part generated by myFunction, function into a source tree
that can then be searched for using xpath.

Even i had see the details from the link,
