Oracle supports a good set of data-to-XML services, last time I used them it was called XSQL. You can easily create a web service that that can be called via the document function to incorporate it into your transform.

The worst part of the process I had was the initial configuration of the system, getting the Tomcat server and the XSQL set up correctly, once that is done the rest is straight forward.
