What I found interesting about the announcement was that they pointed
people to an open source and commercial product who urgently need an
XSL 2.0 implementation. This is a significant change in culture at
Microsoft. Most people who urgently needed an XSL 2.0 implementation,

Credit here, I believe, goes to a a very active and vocal internal group
at MSFT in whom listened to and pointed internal decision makers to the
various internal and external voices. Like I said, a lot of people
deserve credit for this, and as I pointed out in my follow-up to Mike,

has gone into all of this than what can be seen at the surface level, but
none-the-less, your role in bringing this all together is both obvious and
appreciated (as are the efforts of those that might not be so obvious from
the outside looking in)!

It's impossible to know -- as Dr. Kay points out -- who and what had the most influence. But none-the-less, times have changed at MSFT, and above all, there is a reason XSLT 2.0 was an attractive lure in the first place...

others in whom provided input along the way)
