RE: Detecting a closing tag in xslt

XSLT operates on a tree representation of the XML document, in which the
nested hierarchic structure implied by the start and end tags is made
available as a tree of objects.

So a (start, end) tag pair results in the creation of a single element node,
and it is that node that your XSLT stylesheet (or more strictly, your XPath
expression) sees. Don't think tags, think nodes.

What are you trying to achieve?
