Quick answer. document('ClientInfo.xml')/ gets you the root document. Then you can treat it like any other XPath. (Similar to variables and parameters node-sets as well) Say..something like: document('ClientInfo.xml')/lab:CIInfo/lab:mailing/lab:docname[. = $currentName] Jon Gorman
