Hi,

At 02:40 PM 3/17/2006, it was written:
If it is possible to have JUnit and Emma produce XML and you do not want
to interfere with your existing outputs, why don't you create both HTML
and XML from your existing tools. That way you'll have your reports in
both formats.

With others, I agree. However I hasten to add that how much is to be gained by going back to their XML largely depends on the design of that XML tagging. While the HTML version is extremely unlikely (given how it's probably made it may be impossible) to have *more* information than the XML version, it could well have much *less* information. Naturally you would generally want the form that is richest in information to be the source for your own transformations.

Given the choice of XML out of a tool and the HTML version thereof out of the same tool, that is, as source data for a display transformation, leaves open the question of whether the gain will be merely that there is less work to do "fixing" the XML (since it's already fixed) to serve as this source, or whether it'll be much more than that. In many cases the XML version will present information that could be useful to your transformation, which the HTML version (even after it's Tidied) either leaves out entirely, or presents in a form less convenient to use.

Cheers,
Wendell
