Yeah, this is a nasty problem. Maybe you'd be aided by developing using a highly-conformant processor that gives good error messages (like Saxon :-), and only once code is thoroughly debugged there to test it in FF and IE both. This helps "triangulate" as well as giving your processes more transparency in the development phase. (Oh you're already doing that?)
