Tokenize returns a sequence and items in a sequence may be referenced via
numeric predicate expressions, thus:

  <xsl:variable name="seq" select="tokenize($s, ',')"/>
  <xsl:value-of select="$seq[1]"/>

returns the first value in the sequence and:

  <xsl:value-of select="$seq[3]"/>

returns the third.
