This will fail because your input document is not wellformed XML: element
names must start with a letter.

When reporting that things fail, it's always a good idea to quote the error
message. You may not understand it, but it's likely that others will. And it
might be failing for some reason quite unrelated to the above. For example,
you might have failed to declare a variable called $number; or current()
might be the wrong node (you give no indication of the context of your XPath
expression).

Well, sorry about me. I write 1, 2 here, in the file i wirte one ,two,
..etc. I write the value of number and current() and they are ok. :(

Then it is so much more important that you give us the error message. Have you tried <xsl:copy-of select="document('../list.xml')"/> which would tell you if you get the wanted xml document?

Could you tell us more of the context as well?

Hi again,
I write the complete xml file...
<list>
<word>
<word1>
<one>house</one>
<two>cat </two>
</word1>
</word>
<word>
<word2>
<one><little</one>
<two> bigger</two>
</word2>
</word>
</list>
i would like to obtain every nodes inside the word node(word1, word2) and compare it with the current()(the word at xml file) to know if this is the word to change. Then, with the param value i obtain the corresponding item of the list.(one, two) and i write the value of this node. For example if $number=2 and <find-list>word1<find-list> it must return cat...
When i write document(../list.xml) it does not return the list node or the word node, it returns the house, little, etc. My problem is that i don't know how to obtain the word node to examinate it and compare with the xml file word.
Sorry about me, i never use xslt before and ....:s:s sorry about my enghish too.
PD: i tried <xsl:copy-of select="document('../list.xml')"/> and it returns only the little, bigger, house and cat nodes. It doesn't wirte the list and word nodes.
