Hi Mike, I came up with this syntax as I wasn't aware of the brace usage in <xsl:value-of select="(b/c[@type='pdf'])[1]" /> which is probably more concise. But nesting of '[' is allowed and I have seen David C use it earlier. As for how it works, it selects the first b child having a c child with an attribute type='pdf' and then selects the text of the c child which is what the OP wanted. cheers, prakash "Mike Schinkel" <mikes@xxxxxxxxx To: <xsl-list@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> > cc: (bcc: omprakash.v/Polaris) Subject: RE: Extract First node 09/02/2005 11:44 PM Please respond to xsl-list Prakash>> <xsl:value-of select="b[c[@type='pdf']][1]/c/text()"/> Can you explain how b[c[@type='pdf']]work? I'm not familiar with that. Is it v2.0 syntax? -Mike This e-Mail may contain proprietary and confidential information and is sent for the intended recipient(s) only.
