xsl trim whitespace
You can write

<xsl:attribute name="x">
  <xsl:value-of select="abc"/>
</xsl:attribute>

Whitespace-only text nodes in a stylesheet are ignored, unless you specify
xml:space="preserve" (which I wouldn't recommend).
