Well, it's certainly one way of doing it and there's nothing wrong with
using namespaces in that way.  However, if you have control over the
source why not use the elements position within the hierarchy to
indicate which organisation:

<us>
  <item>
	<value>1000</value>
  </item>
</us>

<them>
  <item>
	<value>5000</value>
  </item>
</them>
