If you have no templates at all, then what you get is not a copy of the
input, but rather a result tree that has no elements at all, but just
has the character data from the input.

If you add the template

<xsl:template match="person[text()='anyValue'>

	otherValue
</xsl:template>

to this otherwise empty stylesheet then any person element node (not a
text node) which has a text node child with value value 'anyValue'
will generate the string
'newline newline tab otherValue newline'
rather than the string 'anyValue'.

Is that what you are seeing?

You say "And this does not work " but do you mean you didn't get the
output you expected or that you got an error or something else.
If you didn't get the behaviour described above then something else is
wrong (eg your elements are in a namespace so match="person" never
matches).
