references. The xml spec doesn't define anything called a named
character reference.

It's a term from the HTML world, which I would suggest anyone to use.


I would use the term entity reference only in the case an entity refers to either an external file or more than one character. It just a good practice as it enables people to address precisely what they mean. I mean, any sensible man understands what I meant with numeric and named character references...
