Perhaps you are ;) You're right though, its not all that difficult to configure but I have found that there are those who want an "out of the box" solution that requires nothing more than a standard installation process to get up and running. jEdit is not this kind of tool. As you know jEdit has a very powerful plug-in manager that is REALLY easy to use and includes a vast array of editor extensions and applications that hook into the jEdit UI that basically cover the entire gamut of technologies from Ant to XML and EVERYWHERE in between. By default the only extensions/plug-ins (I believe) that are installed by default are a notepad style notetaker and... hmmm... maybe thats it. But in about 10 minutes of download and configuration time you can be set up exactly the way you want.

Worthy of mention (see http://www.mdavidpeterson.com for a link to some pics from the conference and the Saxon.NET project site -- http://www.x2x2x.org/saxon.net/ -- for links to the slides from Kurt and myself regarding XSLT 2.0 and Saxon.NET -- as well as some of the other XSLT 2.0 projects including Olegs project -- in general -- probably worth doing a seperate email exposing the exisitence of these docs.) at the XMLDevCon (http://www.sellsbrothers.com/conference) 2 weeks ago I sat down with Chris Anderson (Director in charge of the XAML project at MS) and discussed all sorts of different things -- but one in particular worth mentioning is that MS has finally realized the importance of making it REALLY easy to write common snippets of code and include this ability "inline" while typing. Obviously "snippets" are not a new concept but jEdits "Abbreviations" engine has made the process so clean and simple (type "cwto" followed by the space bar (must explicity turn on the "space bar" expansion feature) and get a complete block of choose/when/@test/otherwise with the cursor sitting between the quotes of the test attribute.) I forget what they are terming the capability (its not templates but a word similar to this) but it should be in available to play with in the next beta of Whidbey.

For what is worth if youre looking for a fantastic editor and you are willing to spend the extra 10 minutes to configure it, download jEdit (http://www.jEdit.org). Its worth the time and effort for sure!

Best regards!

Does someone know a good AND free xml/xsl editor? It should have at

and means to call up any browser from within the program itself.

I am personally a HUGE fan of jEdit... coupled with Oxygen or Sonic
Studio for debugging. jEdit does require a bit of configuration to get
it to where you want and I wouldn't recommend it to a novice developer
but for an experienced developer its tough to beat. Theres a huge
community supporting jEdit with both general support as well as plugin
development. You can learn all about it at http://www.jedit.org

Best of luck!

I tried to install some eclipse plugins, but they're all for the
2.x version, and they didn't work with the 3.x eclipse version.

Currently, I'm using Butterfy XML editor, but it has a bug with
firefox, so it can't call it.

thanks
