In footnote mode, I should get (number in brackets indicates footnote mark):

<p>Standard citation: [1]. Citation in a footnote: [2]</p>

The footnote content would then look like:

1.  Doe, John (1999) Title ....
2.  And another citation, Doe, John (1999) Title ....
