But you should be sure to validate the result (or at least check the well-formedness, if it's meant to be XML), before sending it on, since if the HTML is not well-formed neither will the result be. That's the price you pay for letting people escape their markup and yet expect that it be treated as markup. (It can't be both markup and not-markup at the same time, see.) Plus fixing all the errors that turn up that were invisible when it wasn't markup.
