what is my element test
Thanks for the replies to my question. I will try these solutions today.

It sounds like XSLT 2.0 will have much more functionality than its
predecessor. Are there any ideas about when we might see some
implementations?

To reply to Mr. Kay's question about my elements: "But why are you packing
information into the element name anyway? That's what attributes are for."
Unfortunately the processor that generates the XML code from the original
text messages appends a number to the end of an element (rather than using
an attr.) when that element resides in a certain segment of the message.
Believe me, if I had any control over how the XML was output from the
message processor, it would be done differently. For now we have to work
with what we are given.
